The Storm

I feel like I'm in the middle of a hurricane right now...for you west coast and midwest people, you might not be able to relate, but a lot of times the only thing you can do during a hurricane, is stay inside and wait it out. You have to try to keep your mind on other things and let time pass, then before you know it, the hurricane passes. That's exactly the way I feel about waiting for my MBP.

According to my order status, it should be shipping tomorrow at the latest, which is actually tonight in Shanghai because they're 12 hours ahead of the east coast.

I got a few questions about my screen...I went with the matte. I completely forgot to mention that in my first post. I'll be moving my MBP around to many different locations and I didn't want to have to deal with glare. I'm very used to matte LCDs and I think that will suit me quite nicely.

In other news, I've been getting my books in for Law school in the fall. Nothing too exciting there considering I'm waiting for my MBP.

My wife and I have two weekend trips coming up, one to Atlanta and one to the Poconos, in PA. Those should be fun, then it's right into Law orientation that 3rd week in August.

Lastly, I should mention...I got the 30 GB vid iPod with my student discount, but I haven't opened it yet. I'm waiting till August 7th, which is a rumored date for new iPods, to see if new ones are coming out before I open mine. And, if they do, and they're eligible for the student promo (which is unlikely in both regards), then I'll take mine back and get a new one. We'll see if this works. If worse comes to worse, I'll just enjoy my 30 GB Gen 5.5 iPod...which is black btw.

As I Wait

I realized today that my wait for my new MacBook Pro could have been excruciatingly more painful, IF I wouldn't have ordered a few other things in the meantime. For instance, I used the back to school promo Apple is running to get a 30 GB video iPod for $50 as well as a Airport Extreme wireless router, a Tucano sleeve for the MBP, as well as a Logitech V270 bluetooth mouse. I've received everything but the mouse so far and it's been fun accumulating these things as I'm still waiting for my MBP.

So what else is going on in my world, I've ordered a few books for law school, and all the sudden, it's becoming more real to me. I start school in less than a month. Am I ready? I believe I am, but sometimes I doubt myself. I had a positive run-in on Monday with one of my professors for the fall, so that was encouraging.

My wife is 23 weeks pregnant, and that is going surprisingly well. I'm sure I'm over simplifying her backaches and sleeping problems, but from my perspective, things could be worse.

Another Switcher Story

There's something intriquiing about one's switch to OSX from Windows. I don't know what it is, but I've found enjoyment in reading others' stories, so I hope you find enjoyment out of reading mine. I posted one link in my first blog entry to the Shoeless Switcher, here is another Switcher story.

Seattle Karma Switcher Story

My MacBook Pro might be shipping this Friday. The specs are as follows. 2.2 GHz C2D Santa Rosa processor, 160 GB 7200 HDD, 2 GB memory stock (soon to be upgraded to 4 GB), 128 MB nVidia Geforce 8600 video card, etc. The rest of the specs can be found on Apple's site.

I look forward to chronicling my experience.

First Things First

Hello all, let me quickly introduce myself and explain what this blog is going to about. First of all, where did i get my alias? Well, it all started with Halo and the hit-show Smallville. I began playing Halo 1 on the XBOX back in, we'll say, 2001 I believe. Around that same time, Smallville had started it's first season, and i instantly formed a connection to Lex Luthor's character on Smallville. Of course he takes a turn for the worse later on down the road, but in the first couple seasons, he was a decent guy, good dresser, and good with words. Anyway, i liked the name LEX, and it's stuck with me as an alias.

So, what's this blog all about? It's going to consist of many things including, my journey into law school as i work full-time, continue to be a husband, and soon-to-be father (in Dec.). Also, it's going to chronicle my switch to my new SR Macbook Pro and OSX (idea taken from the Shoeless Switcher http://switch.shoelessone.com) as well as other things in life that peak my interest.

I work full-time in a university's IT department and I'll be starting law school in the fall. My interests include music (modern rock, pop, emo, electronic, Christian rock, praise & worship) as well as computer gear, ODU basketball, horses, and the best FSP of all time, Halo 1. I don't get to play Halo all that often anymore, my times playing through the night, LANs with 10+ friends, and traveling to tournaments are always missed.

My new journey into law school will definitely force me to re-evaluate my time and not take my free-time for granted. But, I hope to share some of my thoughts in the near future on this blog.

Lastly, a lot of people ask me what type of law i want to go in, and the honest answer is, i don't know. But, my ever-growing interest in Apple has made me think about what it would be like to work for Apple's legal department in Cupertino, CA. Also, my background in IT and math/science could prove to be beneficial in Patent Law. My strong passion for music though would fit nicely in working with the legal aspects of iTunes in some way. We'll see, though. I don't need to decide this until I'm looking for jobs my last year of law school, and even then, I'm sure Apple only hires the brightest and best attorney's with a good amount of experience.
